Here are a few tips to make the most of your time with your doctor:
- Prioritize: Make a list of questions prior to your appointment, and prioritize the most important 1-2 items. In order to give your questions the appropriate time and attention they deserve, there may only be time to address 1-2 questions during a single visit. Remaining questions can be addressed at a subsequent visit.
- Keep a running document of your medical history: This can be extremely helpful to refer to during an appointment. You can include dates of surgeries, colonoscopies, pap smears, mammograms, specialist appointments, major medical issues, etc.
- Know your medications: To your very first appointment with your doctor, bring all of your medications in their original bottles. It is also helpful for you to carry a list of your medications in your wallet, including dosages and how often you take them.
- Medical records: If you have your medical records, bring them along to your first appointment. If they are with another doctor, call us to arrange to have these records transferred to your new doctor.
